Based in the UK, Van Der Trip is a driven, passionate and charismatic artist with a unique approach to his blend of EDM. Following a background within the metal music scene, the artist eventually moved on to electronic music, particularly EDM and trance. His sound is all about connecting with listeners through high-energy release, uplifting melodies, a fat low end that makes the floor shake, not unlike artists such as Tiesto, Avicii, Arctic Moon or Alesso, just to mention a few.
Somewhere between Tiësto’s In Search of Sunrise , Oakenfold’s Tranceport and Armin van Buuren’s Boundaries Of Imagination lies another Trance subgenre amply explored by Van Der Trip on his track release, the 7-minute long “ELEMENTS”.
There are no soaring vocals here and anything that could conceivably be considered “extra baggage” material was discarded, leaving us with the bare-bottom essentials for a simply awesome musical journey. If you love great trance or progressive house that slowly builds into something energetic and explosive, you’ll love this track.
Though provoking, emotional, the bass-driven rhythm splits the body and soul apart and reintroduces them like long-lost lovers. Listen to this when you are alone and need perspective on where you are, where you’ve come from and where you want to go. Van Der Trip has added a new, interesting and intoxicating dimension to the typical and often boring “trance” experience.
Van Der Trip drops the usual over-elaborated melody scheme, and infuses more emotive energy and raw musical capabilities, focusing the sound into a smaller, pinpointed audio spectrum. That is, less instrumentation and diversified sounds, and more fortified core sounds; this translates into powerful bass, synth and drum tracks.
The world of music is so amazing; much lesser known artistes are so talented, so good and honest in their efforts yet don’t always get the due attention they deserve. After going through “ELEMENTS”, this is exactly what I feel. The quality and emotion this evokes through its build-ups and breakdowns, is astounding.
Gimmicks and image engineering are completely absent, in stark contrast with the surprisingly pervasive dance music with which we are so familiar. Compared to that category, “ELEMENTS” is awash with emotion, subtle effects, and a careful application of symmetry and rhythm. This is not your usual Trance or even pseudo Trance by Infected Mushroom…this is definitive ‘Alternative Trance’ experience, brought to you by courtesy of Van Der Trip!
