The debut album from Bruce Nowlin titled THIS LIFE veers away from traditional electronica music and lends itself to a funky ying yang kind of new age meets groovy rock music. The opening track “321” right away tells the listener you’re in for something unique.
Songs such as “Angry MF” which is a heavy metal electronica styled tune, more suited for the likes of Guns and Roses than Enya, yet the tune “Enigma” which features Congo drums and horns slows the pace back down and is reminiscent of classic 80’s style new age music.
“My Kind” which is a blend of classic rock and grooving electronica is an inspiring jam sure to have you tapping your foot along with the beat. “Mystery” is a ghostly howling tune which builds up emotions and leaves you wondering what the mystery really is. “Walking In The Park” is a nice up-tempo piano and flute song; just right for a stroll through Central Park.
There is always something to appeal to virtually every style of listener here. With each song there are clever detours and rhythmic changes to move and encapsulate you. Bruce made sure to make his debut album an all-inclusive release, his music incorporates a generous bass backbeat to nicely complement each song.
There is much to like about THIS LIFE despite a few songs which could have used a little more polish. Bruce appears to be aiming more for soundscapes which just feel right, versus where they hit on the charts; this album is a must buy. THIS LIFE releases October 16, 2015 and will be available from CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and many other digital download services.
