Atlanta’s hip-hop scene is booming with new music from well-known acts, but there’s a long list of up-and-comers bringing fresh sounds to the city. Big things are happening in Atlanta, and I could go on and on about all the distinctive rap trends that are taking place in this city but that would make for a much longer article. Instead, let’s take a look at one of its disciples, CSpence. Born in Panama City Panama, and raised in Warner Robins, GA, the Atlanta-based musician CSpence’s influences include Outkast, Devin the Dude, Krs One, Curtis Mayfield, Maze and Frankie Beverly, Too Short, Project Pat, Tupac, and Buju Banton. CSpence’s latest project is the single “Fact Or Fiction”, a Hip-Hop/Rap track challenging listeners to analyze whether or not they’re being real with themselves or trying to deceive others.

The slick-tongued Atlanta rhymer has an incredible eye for detail and a wicked sense of wit. His flow is always fresh and engaging, and he also happens to be a lyrical connoisseur. You can’t quite put your finger on what his style is, from any given song or project.

He’s committed to keeping his listeners on their toes, and every beat is his playground. The key word that keeps popping into my head as I listen to “Fact Or Fiction” is “eclectic”. He’s not an artist who makes simplistic tracks, even if they may appear so.

He employs an alternative approach for each of his projects, which means the next one, whenever it comes, will be just as much of a brainteaser as the last.

Just jump from “AvitaS” to “Sonoid”, and then onto “Fact Or Fiction”, and you’ll see what I mean by the previous statement. There’s a simple explanation for CSpence’s metamorphosis from song to song. He’s an exceptionally gifted and charismatic songwriter, with a rare ability to balance meaningful, storytelling lyricism with an endless arsenal of catchy melodies.

The majority of new wave rappers out right now, excel with melody or with bars, but it’s rare to find an artist who has a proficiency in both. CSpence is an exception to the rule, and he comes into “Fact Or Fiction”, with a fully loaded clip. I can say that CSpence’s penchant for infectious melodies, breezy beats, and deceptively layered bars will catch on in no time.

The beat and the overall sound on “Fact Or Fiction” is just immaculate. Clearly much time and effort was put into crafting the sound. The track does not pretend to be groundbreaking or revolutionary in any why – something many of CSpence’s colleagues are claiming for lesser works – but it certainly is asking some socially pertinent questions.

So sit down, give this track a spin, and be prepared for some quality entertainment. Maybe have a good look in the mirror while you’re at it!
