Formerly known as “The Phinks”, The Phy?nks is an independent band and their genre is urban progressive rock. The Phy?nks are a very socially conscious band with songs ranging from fun and whimsical to very cutting edge and edgy taking on subjects about love to police brutality and domestic abuse.
The Phy?nks are currently working on their forthcoming album, “We Are The Phy?nks” scheduled for the winter of 2016. To say that the songs we listened to thus far, is a good achievement, is a huge understatement as The Phy?nks songs are totally amazing. Genre-bending, cutting-edge, crossover, soulful and sweepingly energetic, doesn’t even come close as a description. The minute the trumpet sets in on “Honey Love”, you know you are in for a ride like no other.
The sound just grips you and never eases up giving you time to catch your breath, it just keeps moving forward. With songs like “Love is Joy”, “So Many Boys”, “Let it Go” and “Where Are You”, The Phy?nks are very in your face with sounds that move from eclectic and funky, to warm and inviting. The amount of different genres they are able to take on, and make sound effortless, is staggering. Pinky’s voice is definitely the highlight of these tracks; it’s wondrous how she can manipulate her vocals to get it to do whatever she wants – from upbeat spunky through to slow-burning slinky – sounding in a class of her own.
With the combination of Pinky’s vocal prowess and the amazing music created and produced by multi-instrumentalist D., together with guitarist Mr.Vundernickel, you will be hard pressed to find better genre-hopping music than this. It’s obvious that this is the kind of incredibly brilliant sounds almost never finds its way into the mainstream. But who cares, it’s only the feeble masses that will be losing out. Real music lovers will find The Phy?nks, one way or the other, as their style and substance is really hard to miss if you’re a music connoisseur.
The Phy?nks speak volumes musically, lyrically, instrumentally and spiritually. By supporting this collective you are not only supporting an artist, you are supporting an idea, an evolving movement.
The industry no longer has total control of the market, you do. The Phy?nks deserve the success they should have, if only because they have not allowed themselves to be soul-sucked by a pathetically static industry. The incredible music they make is just the cherry on top!
I can’t wait to hear the “We Are The Phy?nks” album!
