Born, Barry C. Fernandes, Belle Vex is a pop rock artist out of New Bedford, MA., who during November released his 6-track EP entitled, “15 Minutes of Fame”. From the first song to the last, this is one of the most entertaining male-pop EP’s I’ve heard recently. Even though each song has its own unique sound, there’s never any drop off in quality. Lyrics, vocals, melodies, and production are all top notch.
I will say that to fully appreciate this EP, it should be heard on good speakers or headphones. There are a lot of little details and nuances you’ll miss out on otherwise. That’s one reason you won’t get tired of listening to this album multiple times, you hear something different each time!
Belle Vex’s brand of catchy electro rock-pop and grown up boy next door sweetness is a perfect tonic to cynicism. He sings the sort of heart on your sleeve music that makes you feel happy, keeps your feet going, and a smile on your face. The EP catches its groove immediately with the sing-along happiness of “Famous”, an energetic upbeat number with a very memorable chorus you will find yourself singing all day long.
“Escort Girl” confirms Belle Vex’s wonderful knack for catchy melodies and just when you think that things can’t get better, he flips into a dance floor tinged groove entitled “Are You In“; this has all the potential to become the smash of any summer. In the end, Belle Vex’s sincerity on “Smile” as well as his musicianship sells the sunniness of this EP without pretense – just honest, melodic pop-rock that will uplift you. Pick this one up for a good time and a smile.
Belle Vex’s own eclectic musical taste is evident in “15 Minutes of Fame”. It has some head bopping pop songs with great hooks you’ll be humming all day. There’s some mature pop/rock anthems with a positive message. One of my favorites, “If We Keep Doing This We’re Screwed”, features lyrics with a darker edge combined with a rock chorus and beautiful harmonies along with some really unique instrumentation.
Listening to the EP, I could not find one song that I disliked, but I found many that I loved. With “15 Minutes of Fame” Belle Vex takes it to the next level with professional polish and clean song structures.
MORE ABOUT: Belle Vex began his music career at a very early age playing cello which lasted halfway through high school. His collegiate studies at the New England Institute of Art (Brookline, MA), earned him his BS in Audio Production, but he fell 17 credits short for his BS in film. After a brief stent in California, Vex suffered major injuries in two car accidents. It was only after difficult life choices that he decided to take up the mantle of music for good. Having built a strong local following, Belle VEX continues on his mission to take the world by storm.
