C.E.O. Carter, born Sherrod Miguel Carter, got his name from his desire to start his own clothing line; but because of his love for music, decided that ‘Ceo’ would be an even better fit as a music artist; with later plans of launching his up and coming line of sleek casual wear for young men and women.  Lansing, MI based artist decided on the acronym because of the journey that’s set before him would entail him to fulfill each letter of the acronym; Conquering Every Obstacles to be successful in his endeavors. He has shared the stage with national recording artists such as Yo Gotti,  Mystikal, Bubba Sparks, Manish, Future, The Chi- Lites, All-4-One and Veronica Lopez, to name a few.

iceo-350b“iCeo” is C.E.O. Carter’s latest 10 track EP release. Let me get straight to the point, this is a must have recording. The EP is off the hook, the beats are all original and will guarantee to bump the bass in your car or at home. I have to give Carter much credit because this is a complete EP, which means he doesn’t have 3 banging tracks and the rest is garbage like many overrated artists.

Over multi-layered tracks, slamming drums and differing sounds, C.E.O. Carter us verses packed with his meticulous storytelling skills which prove, more often than not, to always grip the listeners’ ears despite how many times we have heard similar themes. As he weaves his first person narrative Carter delivers a solid opener with the title track that showcases his microphone capabilities are all in check.

“F** Ya Mean (prod. I Am KBeatz)”, is an aggressive and powerful anthem which gives us a deeper look inside Carter’s mind and his perspective. It is also backed by stark bass-driven production which compliments Carter’s message. Strangely, one of the most infectious pieces of music on the EP is “Bn Thru interlude (prod. Lexi Banks)”.

The piece is sultry and makes the laid-back, fusion of soulful Rap and R&B that is its backdrop seem to pop out of our speakers with a cool, collective calm that makes Carter’s spinning rhymes endlessly enjoyable. “My Mind ft. Flint Po (prod. King Zuse The Producer)”, gives off a glorious cinematic impression as C.E.O. Carter goes back and forth on the microphone. It is tried and true, but still a welcome and unique, way to orally attack the dark, purely underground sound of the tune.

iceo-350Carter is at his most honest “Bn Thru ft. Coach Pe$o (prod. Young Forever)”, he strips away the vehement sensibilities so present throughout the rest of “iCeo”, and comes from the soul as he compliments the beat with his own experience of his hard times.

Victorious in all facets of the stirring, emotive melody chosen and the words used this is the perfect note halfway through the EP. From here on out, you’ll still on your way to standouts like, “Come Up (Prod. Flawless Tracks)”, “Iso (Prod. DJ koke)” and “Confessions (prod. Young Forever)

“iCeo” is solid all-around with the distinctive explosion in all arenas which make C.E.O. Carter so commanding. The beats, lyrics are all of high quality and Carter is at his best when he summons his essence and nearly as good when he gives us an example of why his rhyming is both amusing and vicious.

His topics are varied but mostly settles for the commonplace which most can relate to, while his personality is magnified and at the forefront of the entire project. On “iCeo”, C.E.O. Carter proves that he can craft a mostly gripping record that has even more luster than his earlier endeavors and is far better than most of his Hip Hop peers.
