Jesse Francisco a.k.a. Jesse Jaxx was born in Germany, from an Angolan father and half Nigerian, half German mother. Jesse says that he is as much a mixture, as is his sound. His influences are come from genres like Hip Hop, Soul, Reggae, Dubstep and even Rock music. Jesse Jaxx is a highly unique performer, who in his videos, paints his face and wears dragon contact lenses, as well as a dragon chain, which is means: “I go with wisdom, strength and a mysteriously free spirit” he says.
His brand of conscious rap brought Jesse to release an album with the group “Circle of Energy”, formed with his ex-girlfriend. He is currently working on his mixtape and has released a ‘double-sided’ single containing the songs, “For My Dragons”, Produced by Anno Domini, and “Ooh Wow”, featuring and Produced by Schytex. On Bandcamp the songs are offered in both original and clean versions, for a total of 4 tracks.
Jesse Jaxx is an artist in every sense of the word. He is able to paint pictures of life experiences that you hardly get anywhere else. What do you ask is so special about this single? Yes its rap, I know. For some people that is an instant turn off.
If you claim to be an avid music listener then you must be open to the possibility of rap/hip hop. The beats are like nothing you’ve heard, the flows and styles are also like nothing you’ve ever heard. Again, yes this is rap, but it’s nothing like the garbage we hear on the radio nowadays.
The majority of popular music that reaches the masses is watered down and trite. As a sign of the times, the concept of creating a track that has a cohesive narrative all its own has become almost unheard of. This recording is an exception to that rule.
Jesse Jaxx is a great rapper, I love the straightforward lyrics and the way Jesse is able to create the setting and skillfully explain the storyline of his songs within the beat. He raps within a pure and honest lyrical framework. There is no pretentiousness, arrogance or egoistical characteristics in his rhyming flow – a well-known trait among many USA-based rappers.
All the musical and lyrical, twists and turns, featured on this single feel expertly crafted. The rhymes are clever, the music is rich, the emotions are raw and the themes are crystal clear. Though the single, “For My Dragons”, is only made up of two tracks, the richness of the tones, and the variation in the moods, make this a thrilling listen from start to finish.
In a nutshell, Jesse Jaxx makes music that is aesthetically pleasing, emotionally resonant, and entirely relevant.
