Kasket Club is a Norwegian electro pop duo, consisting of Tobias Gautier Teigen on vocals, keys, guitar and production, and Mattis Syvertsen on percussion. After releasing their first, self- entitled EP during the summer of 2012, Kasket Club quickly gained recognition in the blogosphere resulting in top rankings on Hypemachine’s most popular list, and the title Ukas Urørt (Untouched of the Week) given by the Norwegian radio station P3.

Kasket Club’s strength lies in creating funky pop rhythms with an electronic dance feel. The spiky guitars, persistent drumming, spacey keyboards and melodic vocals make for a brilliant EP. “The King of Cool and the Acrobat” is an apt EP title for a band that is ready to burn up the charts right now. The group’s global sound alludes to a fusion of signature electronica stylings with plenty of guitars tones thrown into the mix. The heavy hooks and infectious rhythms are practically begging to be absorbed with the car windows rolled down and the volume jacked up, whilst head-bobbing and steering wheel tapping follow.

Kasket-Club-COVERA combination of bass-heavy synths and sleek instrumentation, in addition to the crisp delivery of alluring lyrics, create dance-worthy tracks that are both accessible and instantly endearing. Right from the opening title track, this album will make you dance until you pass out and cheer you up when you are having the worst day of your life. Call this modern indie pop, dream pop or chillwave, it’s different than anything that’s played on the radio, but listening to the tracks, especially “Straight West”, “Spark” and “Soul Surfing”, it makes you wonder ‘Why have I never I heard this on the radio?’

Besides the general catchiness of the songs there is some great rhythms and understated guitar work on the go here, from a talented duo with an expanded vision of the music they want to make. In fact what stuck out most to me was the songwriting. The music moves, changes and develops in delightful, unexpected ways, while the lyrics are clever thoughtful and the tunes will not want to leave your head. This music really keeps you on your toes.

Kasket Club’s “The King of Cool and the Acrobat” is one of those albums that really rocks your world – it’s a game changer. Their fusion of electronic with a sometimes pop sound and the occasional alternative rock guitar throw in here and there make it a must listen. It has a good balance of different-ness and sameness in each of the songs to give the EP as a whole, a very cohesive and interesting sound. If you are looking for the ultimate genre crossing pop, dance, indie EP, this is it.
