Matt Fox is a producer and DJ out of Phoenix, Arizona. Matt has been producing music since the age of 14 and professionally plays the guitar, bass and piano, which often make an appearance in his music. Matt keeps a constant national tour schedule headlining shows in various cities, including Denver, Phoenix and Miami. The last two years Matt has been dedicated in working and producing the “Bang Bang EP” which includes vocals by Nyoka Ny-D (Philadelphia), LsDub (Los Angeles), King Beefy (Texas), and Alexis Salgado (Miami). Signed to the Carrillo Music Label in 2011, “Bang Bang” is Matt’s third EP with the label. The EP was freshly released on the 26th of January 2016.

That Matt Fox is changing the face of EDM is no secret. How many electronic music producers do you know that play the guitar, bass and piano? Joining the likes of Disclosure, Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, Gramatik and Empire of the Sun, to name a few, Matt also includes real instrumentation into some of his productions, to give his music that extra juicy twist.

It’s one of those few records that defy categorization. “Bang Bang EP” falls clearly into EDM, but jumps seamlessly through various influences from rock to pop to soul to rap; it feels as if the EP is a journey from beginning to end. One moment you’re in the South Bronx, one moment you are in Miami. Then Ibiza. Then London. Each track is a different collage of sounds and rhythms, which is also what makes “Bang Bang” so unique.

Each song is crafted and laid out with tight beats and awesome production. It is new and old, calming and at the next moment exciting. It is art that you experience. It sets a mood; it is music for making love, for dancing, for cleaning the house. It’s great! Matt Fox’s music on here captures that perfect moment between EDM and everything else, where rhythm and melody intersect. From the opening beats of the title track, “Bang Bang”, which features the exquisite vocals of Alexis Salgado, you will find yourself getting that feeling over and over again that you have just discovered something great that the rest of the world does not know about.

Have no doubts, this Phoenix boy is going to go big. Not too hard and not too soft the songs range from uplifting to inspirational to introspective to simply great.  To help round out the bang for the buck, besides Alexis Salgado, four of the tracks also feature some up-and-coming EDM singers that you may already have heard of King Beefy, LsDUB, Robby and Nyoka Ny.  My favorite tracks are without a doubt those featuring Alexis Salgado, “Bang Bang” and “Not The Only One” with King Beefy’s “Get Away” coming a close third. Throughout though, Matt Fox is showing the world how the bounds of electronic music truly are limitless.

Through his sounds, distortions, drum loops, and other effects he shows that there is so much room for musical experimentation given the resources that musicians now have to work with. He also explores rhythms that are more than just the usual four-to-the-floor dance beats. Matt Fox is one of the frontrunners in showing how music can cross not only the bounds of genre, but also the bounds of old versus new.
